Sislo & DiGirolamo collect Hockey East Weekly Accolades
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) and junior netminder Matt DiGirolamo (Ambler, Pa.) of the third-ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team were named Hockey East Athletic Republic co-Player of the Week and Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. The announcements were made Monday afternoon by the league office.
Sislo, who earned Hockey East Player of the Week on Dec. 15, 2008, scored a goal on Thursday night and handed out a career-high five assists on Sunday against Vermont. Sislo factored in all five New Hampshire goals on Sunday. He registered six shots on goal and was a +2 overall on the week. Sislo set a Whittemore Center record and became the first UNH player to register five assists since Nick Poole did so on Jan. 9, 1993.
DiGirolamo, who earned Hockey East Player of the Week on Nov.8 and Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18, stopped 49-of-50 shots (.980 save%) lifting UNH to a pair of wins over UMass-Lowell and Vermont. DiGirolamo turned aside 25 shots on Thursday to record his second career shutout and allowed a single goal on 25 shots on Sunday against Vermont.
New Hampshire concludes the 2010 portion of its schedule Dec. 10 (7:30 pm.) at the University of Maine. The game will be televised by CBS College Sports. The Wildcats' next home game is Jan. 2, 2011 (4 p.m.), vs. St. Lawrence.
