Stevie Moses, Casey DeSmith Collect Hockey East Honors

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Stevie Moses (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman netminder Casey DeSmith (Rochester, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team were named Hockey East Player & Rookie of the Week, respectively. The announcement was made Monday by the league office. Moses earns the award for the second time this season, while DeSmith is the second UNH freshman to earn this award this season (Casey Thrush – Nov. 21).

Moses scored all five of UNH's goals on the week leading the Wildcats to a pair of wins. The senior forward scored the game's lone goal in a 1-0 win over Providence on Wednesday night and followed that up with a four-goal outburst against Dartmouth on Saturday. He was named Most Valuable Player at the Battle for the RiverStone Cup, Moses had 14 shots on goal and was a +3 on the week. On Saturday night, Moses scored a 5-on-3 goal, a power play goal, a shorthanded goal and an even-strength tally. For Moses, the four-goal effort was the second four-goal effort of the season. Moses is the league-leader in goals scored with 16 thanks in part to a pair of four-goal efforts this season.

DeSmith stopped 48-of-49 shots during the week earning his first two collegiate wins and his first collegiate shutout. On Wednesday against Providence, he turned aside all 26 shots he faced to earn a 1-0 win. On Saturday against Dartmouth, the freshman netminder stopped the final 21 Dartmouth shots, allowing just one goal. DeSmith posted a 0.375 GAA and a .980 save percentage during the week. For DeSmith, this week's starts were just the third and fourth of his young career.

Moses, DeSmith and the rest of the Wildcats return to action on Jan. 20-21 in a home-and-home series against Merrimack College. The Wildcats will travel to North Andover, Mass. on Friday night (7 p.m.) and will play host to the Warriors on Saturday night at Whittemore Center.
