WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Freshman defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Hockey East co-Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made Monday by the league office. van Riemsdyk is the third Wildcat to earn this award this season (Casey Thrush – Nov 21, Casey DeSmith – January 16) and shares the honor with UMass' Steve Mastalerz.
van Riemsdyk contributed a career-high two goals in a 4-3 road win against the University of Massachusetts on Friday night. A win that lifted the Wildcats into the Hockey East postseason for a league-best 24th-straight season. Additionally, the freshman defenseman had six shots on net and was a +3 for the weekend.
In Hockey East, van Riemsdyk ranks ninth in defenseman scoring with 18 points. He ranks eighth in scoring among all freshmen.
