WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore goaltender Casey DeSmith (Rochester, N.H.) of the 11th-ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Hockey East co-Defensive Player of the Week. DeSmith shared the award with Doug Carr of UMass-Lowell. The announcement was made Monday by the league office. DeSmith collects this honor for the second time in his collegiate career and the first time since Feb. 6, 2012.
DeSmith improved to 3-0-0 by stopping 24 shots in a 4-1 win over Boston University on Saturday night. The Terriers scored on the first shift of the game on an odd-man rush, but he settled in and did not allow another goal all night. He stopped 11 shots in the first and 13 combined shots in the final two periods.
DeSmith and the rest of the Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 26 against Northeastern University. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at the Whittemore Center. The contest will be televised live on WBIN-TV and FOX College Sports. For more information on Wildcat hockey or for tickets to UNH home games log on to www.UNHWildcats.com.
