WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore goaltender Casey DeSmith (Rochester, N.H.) and senior forward John Henrion (Holden, Mass.) of the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team were named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week and Hockey East co-Player of the Week, respectively. The announcements were made Monday by the league office. DeSmith collects this honor for the fifth time in his collegiate career, as well as his fourth time this year, while Henrion, who shares this award with BU's Matt Nieto, earns his first career Player of the Week honor.
DeSmith recorded his league-best fifth shutout of the season and stopped 25 shots Saturday night in a 4-0 win over UMass. Overall, he stopped 60 of 62 shots with a .967 save percentage and a 0.96 GAA for the weekend. DeSmith ranks second in Hockey East in goals against average at 1.87 and save percentage at .938.
Henrion scored the game-tying goal against UMass with 3.7 seconds left in the third period of Friday night's 2-2 tie. He recorded his first collegiate hat trick Saturday night's win. Henrion was a plus-3 over the weekend and totaled 13 shots on net. He is third in Hockey East in game-wining goals (three) and ranks first in shots on goal (114).
