DURHAM, N.H. – Junior blueliner Trevor van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team is on the ballot for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Fan Voting that opened on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
In his junior year with the Wildcats, van Riemsdyk serves as an alternate captain as voted on by his teammates. Through the first 24 games of the season, he has four goals and 19 assists for 23 points and has a plus-minus rating of +12. van Riemsdyk started off the 2013-14 season with three assists in the first two games. The junior then assisted on both of UNH's goals in a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to Michigan.
van Riemsdyk played a primary role in the six-game winning streak by the Wildcats as he registered at least one point in five of the six games (2g, 5a). After playing without a point in the sixth game of the streak, he registered another five-game point streak (1g, 5a). In a 6-3 win over No. 19 Nebraska-Omaha, van Riemsdyk tallied three assists. As of January 13, van Riemsdyk ranks fourth in the nation in points per game by defensemen, averaging 0.96 ppg on 23 points through 24 games. He also ranks 17th in the country in assists per game as he is averaging 0.79 on 19 through 24 games.
