BURNS HIRED AS NORDIC ASSISTANT COACH
DURHAM, N.H.  -- Meghan Burns is joining the 2007 University of New Hampshire ski team as a Nordic assistant coach for her first year of coaching in the college ranks. Burns is a 2005 graduate of St. Lawrence University and was a four-year member of the SLU ski team from 2002-05 and captained the team in the ’04 and ’05 seasons.
    Burns competed at the 2005 NCAA Championship in Stowe, Vermont and was named to the NCAA All-Academic Ski Team. She recorded six top-10 finishes in eight races during the 2005 carnival season as the Saints’ top women’s Nordic skier, and was also the team’s top finisher in both events at the NCAAs. Burns emerged as a point scorer for the Saints as a freshman in 2002 and developed into one of the team’s top Nordic skiers in her sophomore season.
    Prior to coming to UNH, Burns was the head ski coach at Greely High School.
    New Hampshire opens the 2007 season Jan. 19-20 at the St. Michael's Carnival, then is host of the UNH Carnival Jan. 26-27. New Hampshire's Attitash and Jackson XC will also be the venues for the 2007 NCAA Championship from March 7-10.
