DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire ski team will have two opportunities to race at home in the 2007 season, including when the Wildcats are hosts of the 54th annual NCAA Ski Championship from March 7-10 with Jackson Cross Country Center as the Nordic venue and Attitash as the site of the Alpine competitions.
UNH, which recorded its highest placing at the NCAAs since 2002 by finishing ninth at the 2006 championship, will also compete at home for the UNH Carnival from Jan. 26-27. Skiers will get an advance preview of the NCAA courses by competing at the Attitash and Jackson Cross Country Center venues that weekend.
New Hampshire opens the 2007 carnival season Jan. 19-20 at the St. Michael’s Carnival. The Wildcats will also race at the UVM Carnival (Feb. 2-3), Dartmouth Carnival (Feb. 9-10), Williams Carnival (Feb. 16-17) and EISA Championship (Feb. 23-24) before competing at the NCAAs..
New Hampshire was also the site of the NCAA Ski Championship in 1984, 1992 and, most recently, 1995 when Colorado won the title. The University of Vermont (’92) and Utah (’84) were previous winners with UNH as the host school. UNH placed seventh at the 1984 NCAAs as well and ninth in both 1992 and 1995.
