ARCHAMBAULT-LEGER, MCNAMARA VOTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec)
and Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.)
of the University of New Hampshire ski team were voted to a 2009
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District at-large team, CoSIDA
announced Thursday afternoon.
Archambault-Leger, a junior alpine skier with a 3.93
grade-point-average in chemical engineering, is a District 1
University Division First Team honoree and will now be on the
national ballot. McNamara, a senior alpine skier with a 3.66 GPA in
kinesiology: exercise science, was named to the Second Team.
Archambault-Leger garnered All-America honors in both the slalom
and giant slalom at the 2009 NCAA championship, where she placed
seventh in slalom and 10th in the giant slalom. She finished in the
top-5 six times during the ’09 carnival season and was the
top ‘Cat in all six of those races. In the opener at Bates,
Archambault-Leger took fourth place in the slalom and fifth place
in the giant slalom. The following week at UNH, she placed third
overall in the slalom. That was her highest placing of the season;
she also took third in the giant slalom at UVM.
Archambault-Leger’s other accolades this season included NCAA
All-Academic Team and All-East Second Team.
McNamara finished fifth in the slalom at the NCAA championship to
garner All-America status; he also placed 16th in the giant slalom
at the NCAAs. He capped the Eastern carnivals by winning the giant
slalom and finishing second in the slalom at the EISA Regional
Championships. He finished in the top 10 in all 12 Eastern races
this season with 10 top-5 finishes overall. McNamara was the top
’Cat in six of 12 races and that included both Middlebury
Carnival events in which he was second overall in the SL and third
in the GS. He also earned second place in the UVM slalom and UNH
giant slalom.
McNamara’s other 2009 accolades included NCAA All-Academic
Team and All-East First Team, as well as team MVP (men’s
alpine).
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important
reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
The 13 eligible sports for the women’s at-large team are:
bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey,
lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water
polo.
The 12 eligible sports for the men’s at-large team are
fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing,
swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and
wrestling.
District 1 consists of universities in the states of Connecticut,
Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and
Vermont.
