McGUFFIN AND GUINEY COMPETE AT U.S. CROSS COUNTRY SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANCHORAGE, Alaska
– Dylan McGuffin (Concord, N.H.) and
Liz Guiney (Park City, Utah) of the University of
New Hampshire ski team competed at the 2010 U.S. Cross Country Ski
Championships that were held at Kincaid Park from Jan. 2-8.
McGuffin, a senior, opened with the freestyle sprints and placed
third in a semifinal of the men’s under-23 race on Jan. 2.
Two days later, he skied to a 25th-place finish (151 racers) in the
15K freestyle with a time of 40 minutes, 26.8 seconds. On Jan. 6,
McGuffin placed 30th (68 racers) in the 20K classic mass start.
Guiney, a freshman, first competed in the 10K free on Jan. 4 and
finished in 90th place (139 racers) with a time of 35:15.5. On the
last day of competition, she took second place in a junior level
classic sprint semifinal heat and also finished 51st (102 racers)
in the classic sprint.
The UNH ski team opens the 2010 EISA carnival season Jan. 15-16 at
the St. Lawrence Carnival. The alpine races will be held at
Whiteface Mountain while the Nordic competition will be at Mt. Van
Hovenberg.
