UNH Men's Soccer Loses in OT to Penn State, 2-1

University Park, Pa.-The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to nationally ranked Penn State University 2-1 in overtime Friday evening at the Penn State NIKE Classic.

The Wildcats and Nittany Lions battled through a scoreless first half and most of the second half. Ricardo Villar got Penn State on the board when he stole a pass from UNH senior goaltender Mitch Osman (Herndon, Va.) to put the Nittany Lions ahead 1-0. Wildcat junior Adam Purcell (Barrington, R.I.) evened the score 1-1 five minutes later on a rebound off of a Penn State defender.

Penn State's Greg Oldfield scored the game winning goal six minutes into the extra session on an assist from Villar to go up 2-1.

Osman made eight saves and Penn State goaltender Whit Gibson tallied two assists in the win. UNH now stands at 3-3-0.

Tournament action resumes Saturday when the Wildcats take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at 5 p.m.
