DURHAM, N.H.-Junior forward Adam Purcell (Barrington, R.I.) scored two goals as the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team got back on track as they defeated Drexel University 3-1 Friday afternoon. The Wildcats improve to 5-9-1 and the Dragons fall to 7-6-1.
In the first half, Drexel fired 13 shots on goal and UNH junior goaltender Shaun O’Neil (Wrentham, Mass.) made some impressive saves to keep the Wildcats in the game. Reuben Schaeffer put the Dragons on the board with over 35 minutes into the game off a rebound for a 1-0 lead. Drexel entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead at the half.
The second half belonged to UNH as freshman midfielder Doug Lawver (Doylestown, Pa.) knotted the game 1-1 off a corner kick. Junior back Tyler Tibbs (Beaverton, Oregon) recorded the assist. The Wildcats took over from there as Purcell scored two goals with just under three minutes apart from each other to give the Wildcats the lead and the win.
O’Neil finished with 13 saves and Drexel keeper Mike Haberman stopped five shots.
UNH hosts Hofstra Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final home game of the year.
