Hofstra Holds Off UNH Men's Soccer 1-0 In OT

DURHAM, N.H.-Senior midfielder David Pettitt scored the game winning goal just under seven minutes into overtime as Hofstra University shut out the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team 1-0 Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats fell to 5-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the America East. Hofstra improved to 9-7-0 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play.

Senior Andrew Darby passed the ball to senior John O'Hagan whose header was knocked down by Wildcat senior goaltender Mitch Osman (Herndon, Va.). Pettitt then got the rebound and put it past Osman for the game winner.

The two teams battled through scoreless first and second halves, with Hofstra outshooting UNH 20-4. Strong goaltending from UNH kept the game scoreless.

Osman made seven saves and senior Dan Sirota (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied nine saves while playing the second half for the Wildcats. Freshman keeper Justin Varrone made two saves for Hofstra.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday against Dartmouth at Singer Park, Manchester. Game time is 7 p.m.
