DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team improved one spot to seventh in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England Region ranking released Monday (10/28). The 9-3-2 Wildcats are the top America East team in this week's poll. Vermont (10-5-1) is ranked ninth, while 7-4-3 Northeastern is 10th in the region.
In addition, the Wildcats received votes in the College Soccer News Top 30 national poll for the second time this season. They are the only America East team in this week's poll. The 'Cats also received votes on September 9 after UNH started the season at 4-0-0. The complete poll can be viewed at www.collegesoccernews.com.
New Hampshire extended its unbeaten streak to five games following a 3-0 win over Boston University Saturday afternoon. Matt Glode (Barrington, N.H.) had two goals in the win, while Nicola Chicco (Claymont, Del.) had a goal and an assist in the victory. Mike Vignola (Hudson, N.H.) turned away six shots in goal for his third shutout of the season.
UNH has three of the top 10 scorers in America East as of Monday. Chicco is ranked second in the conference with 21 points, while Logan Lee (Racine, Wis.) is fourth with seven goals and an assist for 15 points. Back Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) is 10th with 12 points. Vignola is currently the top-ranked goaltender in the league with a 1.12 goals-against average and .792 save percentage.
The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, October 30, when they host Maine in a 2 p.m. game at Lewis Field. The 'Cats close out the regular season November 3 at Stony Brook.
