BROOKLINE, Mass. - Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Eric Masi (York, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team were named to the America East Men's Soccer Championship All-Tournament team that was announced at the conclusion of the tournament's championship game that top-seeded Northeastern won 2-1 over Vermont Sunday. The Wildcats reached the America East tournament for the second straight season in 2002.
Hankard's selection to the All-Tournament team is another in the growing list of honors for the junior defender. Hankard was one of two UNH selections to the all-conference First Team, along with classmate Nicola Chicco (Claymont, Del.). He was a two-time America East Player of the Week and was also selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week October 7. Hankard was also named the MVP of UNH's Nike Fall Soccer Classic after leading the 'Cats to their first tourney title since 1997.
Masi, who was named to the America East All-Rookie Team, netted his first collegiate goal in UNH's 3-1 loss to Northeastern in the conference semifinals November 9. The only freshman for the 'Cats to appear in all 17 games, Masi finished tied for fifth on the team in scoring with a goal and five assists for seven points. He was named America East Rookie of the Week October 21 after registering two assists in a win over Hartford.
UNH closed out the season with a 10-5-2 overall record and a 4-2-2 mark in America East, reaching the 10-win plateau for the first time since 1995. The 'Cats were ranked as high as fifth in the NSCAA New England Region poll and twice received votes in the College Soccer News national Top 30.
