BOSTON - Senior Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Tyler Jackson (Amherst, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team were named to the America East All-Conference team announced Wednesday afternoon. Hankard was a First Team selection for the second consecutive year, while Jackson was a Second Team selection.
Hankard, a back, started all 17 games on the backline for the Wildcats in 2003, anchoring a defense that allowed the fourth-fewest goals in America East. He totaled 2-1-5 on the season, netting the game-winning goal in both games of the Nike Fall Soccer Classic en route to the Wildcats winning their second straight tourney title. He was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week following his performance in the Classic. Hankard was an America East First Team selection last season, an America East All-Rookie performer in 2000 and is also a two-time All-New England selection, garnering First Team All-New England honors in 2002.
Jackson, a midfielder, led the Wildcats in scoring this season, recording totals of 4-3-11. He registered the game-winning goal in a win over then-No. 25 Dartmouth on October 1. Jackson was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Nike Fall Soccer Classic after registering three points in a 5-1 win over St. Joseph's (Pa.). He started all 17 games this season, with he and Hankard being the only two players to do so in 2003.
New Hampshire finished the 2003 season with an 8-9-0 record and 3-6-0 ledger in America East. The Wildcats were ranked as high as No. 2 in New England during the season.
