BOSTON, Mass. - With two goals, including the game-winning tally, Saturday night at Hartford, New Hampshire freshman Bryan Stewart (Swanzey, N.H.) has been named the America East Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
Stewart's first goal of the game came in the 53rd minute, when he gathered up a loose ball and shot it towards the net. The ball deflected off a Hartford defender and went into the goal, giving the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.
His second goal served as insurance for the Wildcats, as he scored in the 84th minute after receiving a pass from fellow freshman Derek Bragg (Downington, Pa.) and slid the ball past the Hartford goalie.
Stewart is now second on the team in both goals and points, totaling three goals and seven points thus far in his first collegiate season.
With Saturday's victory, New Hampshire (3-2-5, 2-0-2 America East) now leads the conference with eight points. The Wildcats will host the Northeastern Huskies Wednesday afternoon at Lewis Field at 3 p.m.
