DURHAM, N.H. - The UNH Wildcats saw their six-match conference unbeaten streak end Saturday morning, as the Boston University Terriers took better advantage of their opportunites to take a 2-0 victory at Lewis Field.
The Terriers struck first in the 36th minute, as Jamie Johnson, coming in from the right side of the net, corralled a blocked shot from Roland Erlichman and put the ball into the net. Erlichman also contributed an assist on the second goal in the 82nd minute, as he took a pass from Steven Gahl and fed Federico Bianchi, who shot the ball past the outstretched body of UNH goalie Brian Levey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Alleghany).
The Wildcats had several chances, especially in the second half when they outshot the Terriers, 8-2. In an example of the home team's inability to finish off scoring opportunities, freshman Mike Davis (Tigard, Ore./Tigard HS) sent a header towards the Terrier net. After BU goalie Chad Comroe made the initial save, senior Logan Lee (Racine, Wis./Washington Park) blasted a shot that Comroe kicked away to save the shutout.
Tyler Jackson (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and Derek Bragg (Downington, Pa./Dowington) each earned three shots in the match, some of which just went wide. In the first half, Geoff Sanford (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) sent a pass to Ross Fishbain (Racine, Wis./Racine Horlick), whose shot hit the side of the net.
New Hampshire (4-4-6, 3-1-3 America East) will play its final non-conference match of the season Tuesday afternoon at in-state rival Dartmouth beginning at 2 p.m. The Wildcats' last home match is one week from today, October 30, against conference foe Albany at 2 p.m. at Lewis Field.
