MIKE DAVIS RETURNS TO HOME STATE FOR SOCCER INVITATIONAL
DURHAM, N.H.- University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team senior back Mike Davis of Tigard, Oregon will return to his home state with the team for this weekend’s Nike Invitational hosted by the Portland Pilots. Davis’ hometown of Tigard is less than 20 miles from the University of Portland’s campus.
    Davis, who played in 17 games for the Wildcats last season, was named to the 2007 America East Championship Team. In his career at New Hampshire, Davis has played in 28 games and cracked the starting lineup 12 times. The Tigard High School graduate was the soccer team’s 2003 MVP and was also a three-time All-Conference selection.
    New Hampshire will begin the season with a match against Washington on Friday Aug. 31, followed by a game versus host-school Portland on Sunday (Sept. 1) afternoon. This will mark the first meeting between the Wildcats and both schools.
    The Wildcats, who were selected fourth in the conference preseason poll, posted a 12-5-3 overall record last season including 6-2-1 in the America East. The team, whose record was its best since 1994, made it to the semifinals of the conference tournament before it fell to No. 2 University of Vermont, 1-0.
