Box Score
DURHAM, N.H.- Junior Chris Banks (Westborough, Mass.) and senior Kyle Urso (Lombard, Ill.) each tallied a goal to lift the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Adelphi University in the 2008 season opener at the 19th annual Nike Fall Classic.

Seventeen minutes into action sophomore Dylan George (Bangor, Maine) played the ball far upfield to Banks, who eluded two defenders before going one-on-one with Adelphi goalkeeper Vincent Treglia. Banks drew Treglia out to the top of the box then tapped the ball passed the rushing goalkeeper into the lower left of the net.

With just over nine minutes remaining in the first half, freshman Brad Hilton (Merrimack, N.H.) passed the ball from a crowded right side to A.J. DuBois (Acworth, N.H.) at the top of the box. A quick pass from DuBois to Urso on the left side allowed for an uncontested shot on goal, as the Panther’s defense and goalkeeper scrambled to get back into position.

Minutes later, Urso had another scoring opportunity, but the forward missed wide left. The Wildcats, who outshot the Panthers 8-1 in the first half, settled for the 2-0 lead after 45 minutes of play.

Just three minutes into the second half the Panthers took advantage of a Wildcat foul in the box to decrease the deficit to 2-1. On the free kick, Alexander Kouznetsov drove the ball over a wall of defenders and into the top left of the net.

With only 1:30 left to play, the Adelphi had a chance to even the score on a free kick opportunity that mirrored the Panther’s lone goal. This time, however, the wall of Wildcat defenders blocked the shot.

Goalkeeper Colin O’Donnell (Springfield, Mass.) earned the win for the Wildcats, while Treglia, with four saves, was credited with the loss.

The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Aug. 31 as the host team will face the University of Rhode Island at Cowell Stadium at 3 p.m. In the first game of the day, Maine and Adelphi will kickoff at 12:30 on Sunday.
