CAMBRIDGE, MASS.- Senior Kyle Urso (Lombard, Ill.) has been selected to the America East 2008 Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference Thursday afternoon.
This season, Urso started in all 18 games and leads the squad in assists with five. Additionally, he has tallied four goals, two of which were game-winners, for 13 total points.
Urso, who was been selected as the America East “Man of the Match” in five of eight conference games, notched a goal in the Wildcats’ 1-1 tie against Stony Brook (Oct. 22) and earned an assist in the game against the America East regular-season champions, Boston University (Oct. 18).
The midfielder, who was selected as the MVP at the Nike Fall Classic, received America East Player of the Week honors for his efforts against Adelphi (Aug. 29) and Rhode Island (Aug. 31), tallying two goals and an assist.
Urso’s achievements have been just as spectacular in the classroom, as the civil engineering major, who has a GPA of 3.41, has been named the America East Honor Roll each of his four seasons as a Wildcat.
All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time (e.g., 11 on the field for soccer). To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
