THREE MEN'S SOCCER ATHLETES HONORED AS NSCAA SCHOLAR SELECTIONS
KANSAS CITY, KAN.
- Juniors Colin O'Donnell (Springfield,
Mass.), Joe Corsello (York, Maine) and
Robin Gerum (Kullavik, Sweden) have been selected
to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar
All-East Region team.
O'Donnell, who was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region first
team, was a rock in net for the ‘Cats this season, ranking
first in the conference in goals against average and save
percentage with marks of 0.76 and .831, respectively. He also
compiled 59 saves this year, a total that ranked sixth in the
conference.
Such on the field accomplishments earned him an America East
All-Conference first team selection, as well as the conference's
Goalkeeper of the Year award.
O'Donnell, an Occupational Therapy major, was selected as a member
of the America East Academic Honor Roll in 2008 and has carried his
academic success into this year, posting an overall 3.34 grade
point average.
As for Corsello, he was selected as an NSCAA honorable mention,
playing in all 18 games for the ‘Cats including 16 starts
this season, tallying one assist, while posting 10 shots. Corsello
notched the assist off a corner kick, as he maneuvered a ball into
the box, setting up Josh Bronner (Belchertown,
Mass.) with a goal in the 23rd minute to propel the Wildcats to
their third straight win in a 4-1 victory over Hartford on Oct.
15.
Corsello was recently named to the College Sports Information
Directors of America Academic All-American first-team for District
1. He is an environmental engineering major, with a cumulative
grade point average of 3.76 at UNH. He was named to the 2008
America East Commissioner's Honor Roll and was selected as a member
of the 2007 America East Academic Honor Roll. In addition, he was
also presented the H. Richard Sandler Award for academic
achievement at the 2008 team banquet.
Gerum was also named an NSCAA honorable mention, playing in 18
games for the ‘Cats, including 17 starts this year, tallying
one goal and one assist, while posting six shots. Gerum scored his
first goal of the season in dramatic fashion as it led to a 1-0
victory over the University of Vermont on Oct. 17.
Gerum, who was named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll
last year, is a Business Administration major and has a 3.74 grade
point average at UNH.
