CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of New Hampshire men’s track & field athletes Victor Adejuyigbe (Penacook, N.H.) and Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.), as well as Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) from the women’s side, each garnered weekly America East awards for the week ending March 28, the conference announced Tuesday.
Adejuyigbe, a freshman, was named Track Performer of the Week after he helped the Wildcats to a first-place finish against Bates College and the University of Maine on March 27 with a pair of individual wins. Adejuyigbe was first in both the 100m and 200m, with respective times of 11.24 and 22.54.
Kaste aided the win with a trio of top-three finishes, including a first-place performance in the discus (46.44m), to garner Field Performer of the Week honors. Kaste, a graduate student, placed third in both the shot put and hammer throw, with respective marks of 15.05m and 49.35m.
Ciambra, meanwhile, claimed her second straight Field Performer of the Week award after breaking her own school record in the pole vault. The senior won the event at the Maine tri-meet with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 4.11m. The mark ranks her 11th in the nation – the highest national ranking ever achieved by a Wildcat pole vaulter – as well as fourth in the East.
The 'Cats return to action Saturday, April 3 at 11 a.m. when they play host to the College of the Holy Cross, Maine and Northeastern University in a quad-meet at the Reggie F. Atkins Track.
