BOSTON – Seniors Anthony Vorachak (Lebanon, N.H.) and the 4x800-meter relay team each turned in third-place finishes to lead the University of New Hampshire men's indoor track & field team to an eighth-place finish at the New England Championships at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Wildcats finished with 32 points and were the highest America East finisher in the 35-team field. The University of Connecticut won the meet with 119.50 points.
Vorachak was third in the heptathlon with 4,839 points. Junior Renrick Pesce (New Hartford, Conn.) was ninth with 4,311 points.
The 4x800 squad of freshman Kevin Greene, graduate student Tyler Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska), and juniors Jake McDougle (Walpole, N.H.) and Bill Godfrey (Merrimack, N.H.) was third in a time of seven minutes, 40.76 seconds.
Sophomore Matthew Guarente (Saugus, Mass.), who won an America East Championship in the high jump last weekend, finished fourth in the event with a mark of six feet, eight inches.
Junior Sean Mitchell (Milford, Mass.) placed fourth in the 500 meters in a time of 1:04.27.
Dinnan finished fifth in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:28.87.
Senior Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 56-1.75.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6, at the IC4A Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.
