Track and Field's Jourdain to Compete at Junior Nationals
DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire men's track & field freshman Joseph Jourdain (Hudson, N.H.) will be competing in the USATF Junior National Championships this week in Eugene, Ore.
Jourdain will be competing in the 5,000m Saturday, June 25 (6:55 p.m.) at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Jourdain qualified for the meet with a time of 8:24.54 in the 3,000m at the America East Indoor Championships. Jourdain finished eighth at the meet and qualified for the Junior National Championship because the qualifying mark was in an alternative event also recognized for the 5,000m championship event.
The championships will also serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships on July 22-24 in Miramar, Fla. The top two juniors in each event qualify for the team, provided that they have also met the 2010 World Junior Championships qualifying standard.
The UNH men's and women's teams have sent qualifiers to Junior Nationals for four of the last five years. In the past, seniors Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.), Megan Donahue (Stratham, N.H.) and Mike Simon (Durham, Conn.) as well as sophomore Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I.) have all competed at the USA Junior National meet.
