DURHAM, N.H.- Senior Cameron Lyle (Plaistow, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team was named the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week. The USTFCCCA made the announcement Monday.
Lyle topped the other finalists with his selfless act on Wednesday, April 24 when he underwent a procedure to donate blood marrow to an anonymous lymphoblastic leukemia patient. This was all done with Lyle's knowledge that he would not be able to compete in another match for the rest of his college career, including the Penn Relays and America East Championship.
Also in the running for the National Athlete of the Week were Northern Arizona sprinter Diego Estrada, Iowa State's Betsy Saina, Grand Canyon's Fred Taylor, and Defiance College's Tom Posterna and Nicole Michmerhuizen.
