MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WINS AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP

STONY BROOK, N.Y.
– Senior Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) finished in second place overall to power the University of New Hampshire men’s cross country team to a first-place victory and a successful defense of their conference crown Saturday at the America East Championships in Stony Brook, N.Y.
   
Edgerton finished the 8,124 meter course in a time of 25 minutes, 37.4 seconds, just five seconds behind first-place finisher Alex Felce of Stony Brook.
   
The Wildcats placed four runners in the top 10, including junior Matthew O’Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), senior Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Joshua Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.), who placed fourth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
   
Edgerton, O’Connor (25:51.8), Horwitz (26:23.8) and Kearns (26:25.3) were all named to the America East All-Conference Team for their top-10 finishes.
   
UNH’s 35 points were enough to hold off host Stony Brook (37) and Boston University (85), to win their second consecutive America East Championship.
   
The ‘Cats placed three more runners in the top 20 of the 73-runner field, including junior Brent Powers (Remsden, N.Y.), senior Benjamin Danton (New Milford, Conn.) and sophomore Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska). Powers placed 14th in a time of 26:41.2, Danton finished 15th in a time of 26:42.9 and Dinnan finished 20th in 26:54.1.

The Wildcats return to action Thursday, Nov. 1 at the ICAAAA championships at Van Cortland Park in Van Cortland, N.Y.
