BOSTON - Senior Heidi Plencner (Hampton, N.H.), a guard on the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team, was named the America East "Player of the Week" for the week ending December 16 on Monday.

Plencner led UNH to victory in the 'Cats only game last week, a 66-44 drubbing of UMass on December 13. In that game she totaled 17 points, going 6-for-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point land. She also contributed a career-high six steals, two assists and two rebounds in the win.

Plencner, a 5-8 guard who starred at Winnacunnet HS, currently stands just six three-pointers shy of breaking the UNH career mark for made threes held by Kelly Karl. Karl drained 142 threes from 1994-98. Last season Plencner set a school record for made trifectas in a season with 51.

So far in 2001-02, Plencner ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.6 ppg. She leads the team with 28 steals and 16 three-pointers made, and ranks second on the team with 25 assists.

New Hampshire currently sits at 4-5 on the year. The 'Cats are idle until they host the Pioneers of Sacred Heart on Saturday, December 29. Game time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 3 p.m.
