The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated, 72-64 in the third place game of the Wildcat Christmas Classic by Brown University on Monday night at the Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University.
With the loss the Wildcats drop to 4-5 overall on the year, while Brown improved to 3-6 on the season.
Senior forward Aubrey Danen (Oconomowoc, Wisc.) and sophomore guard Geneva Livingston (Red Bank, N.J.) each scored a team-high 14 points to pace the Wildcats. Livingston also tallied seven rebounds and shot 4 of 6 from the floor, while Danen went 5 of 11 from the field. Senior point guard Colleen Mullen (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 11 points and six assists, while junior center Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) registered eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 42.9% from the floor, converting on 21 of their 49 shots, while holding the Bears to a 40% field goal percentage (24 of 60) in the game. UNH had a 35-27 lead at the half, but Brown owned a 53% field goal percentage in the second half and outscored the Wildcats 45-29 in the second session to seal the victory.
Livingston was named to the All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the tourney. She averaged 17.5 ppg for the tourney after netting a career-high 21 points against Fairfield Sunday afternoon. Livingston went 11-16 from the field and 7-8 from three-point range for the tournament. She also averaged six rebounds per game.
The UNH women's basketball team returns to action at home on Thursday, Jan. 2 against Iona. Game time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 5 p.m.
