BOSTON - After scoring 22 points in the final 18 minutes of last Friday night's overtime victory over Dartmouth, Danielle Clark (Corinna, Maine) has been named the first recipient of America East's Wilson Player of the Week Award for the 2004-05 season.
The sophomore forward led all players with 25 points as the Wildcats came from behind both in regulation and in overtime to defeat the Big Green, 75-73, at Lundholm Gymnasium. Clark established career highs with her point total as well as making 13 free throws during the game.
With UNH down by four points with two minutes remaining in regulation, Clark hit three free throws to bring the Wildcats within one point. In overtime, Clark scored New Hampshire's first 12 points, including a three-pointer from the left corner with 1:45 remaining that rattled in to give UNH the lead for good.
Immediately after her three-pointer, Clark drew a charge on Dartmouth's Krista Perry that stopped the Ivy League favorites from taking the lead back. It also enabled UNH, thanks to Clark's free throws, to expand its lead and put the game out of reach.
This is the second time in her career that Clark has won a weekly award from the conference. She was named America East Rookie of the Week last December 14 after scoring 13 points and pulling down five rebounds in a victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
