Danielle Clark

BOSTON -- After averaging 20 points per game to earn Most Valuable Player honors at the Lehigh Christmas City Classic, University of New Hampshire junior forward Danielle Clark (Corinna, Maine) has been named America East Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.

Clark surpassed her career high in scoring with 26 points against the Towson Tigers in the first round of the tournament. She shot 8-of-13 from the field and 9-of-9 from the free throw line as she scored 18 of those points in the second half and overtime to lead the Wildcats to a 70-69 overtime victory. Clark also notched her second career double-double by pulling down ten rebounds, plus she dished out three assists.

The next night against Lehigh, Clark scored ten of her 14 points in the final 25 minutes of action, hitting a three-pointer halfway through the overtime period to expand the UNH lead to six over the host school. Clark also went 3-of-4 from the free throw line over the final minute and a half of overtime to help the 'Cats ice the game. In addition, she grabbed five rebounds and earned two steals in the 66-58 victory over the Mountain Hawks.

This is the second time in her career that Clark has earned the Player of the Week honor, previously picking up the honor on November 22, 2004, after scoring 25 points, including the first 12 Wildcat points of overtime, to lead UNH to a 75-73 victory over Dartmouth. She was also named America East Rookie of the Week on December 14, 2003, after scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds in a victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Clark shares this week's honor with Danielle Hood of Hartford, who averaged 19 points per game as the Hawks defeated St. Joseph's and Seton Hall over the last two weeks. This is the 36th time since 1984 that a UNH player has earned this honor, and Clark becomes the eighth Wildcat to be named Player of the Week more than once during her career.

The Wildcats open America East play Wednesday, January 4, against the UMBC Retrievers at Lundholm Gym beginning at 7 p.m.
