WILLIAMS EARNS AMERICA EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Candace Williams (Norfolk, Mass.), a junior forward on the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team, was named America East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

Williams, who was named America East Player of Game in New Hampshire’s past two contests, averaged a double-double last week with 15 points and 11 rebounds per game.
The forward led the Wildcats with a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds at Boston College. She followed that performance with 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the Wildcats’ win over Northeastern.
In the past two games, Williams played 79 out of 80 possible minutes and went six-for-six from the free throw line against the Eagles. Against Northeastern, Williams tallied 13 of her 17 points during the Wildcats’ second-half charge, in which the team scored 48 points during the final frame to overcome a double-digit half time deficit. She went 5 of 9 from the floor in the second half for the Wildcats, whom shot 60 percent (15-25) during the final 20 minutes.
She has tallied eight straight games in double figures to start the season. The last Wildcat to do so was Maren Matthias, in which she had 18 straight 10-plus point performances to start the 2003-04 season.
Williams and her teammates will host Canisius College on Saturday, Dec. 20. Tip off at Lundholm Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
