CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H.), a freshman guard on the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team, was honored as Rookie of the Week for the second time in her career by the America East Conference Monday afternoon.
Hogan takes home the honor after leading New Hampshire to a thrilling, 88-74, triple-overtime victory over Rhode Island (Jan. 1) at the tail end of a three-game week that also featured a pair of contests at the 20th Annual Hawk Classic.
She averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game during the three-game span, while also posting an impressive .556 (5-9) shooting clip from beyond the arc. Moreover, the redshirt-freshman point guard protected the rock, turning the ball over just eight times while dishing out 17 assists for a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio during the stretch.
Hogan posted 10 points, six assists, and five rebounds in 52 minutes of action against the Rams in UNH's first-ever triple-overtime game. It was the third time this season she has tallied double digit points.
Earlier in the week she put together a pair of solid outings at the 20th Annual Hawk Classic (Dec. 28-29), hosted by St. Joseph's University, at Hagan Gymnasium. She kicked off the tournament tallying a career-best eight assists paired with nine points and four boards against St. Joseph's University. In the second game of the tournament against Quinnipiac University she was just as productive, posting nine points, three assists and two rebounds.
With her impressive eight assist outing against the Hawks, Hogan becomes the first Wildcat to reach this mark since Amy Simpson did so last season against Maine on Feb. 16. She reached her previous career high of seven assists twice this season and has led the team in helpers in all but two games this year.
Hogan is averaging 8.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this season. She leads the conference in assists, while ranking third in three-point field-goal percentage (.400; 20-49) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2).
Hogan and the Wildcats open their America East conference schedule on the road Tuesday, Jan. 4, with a 7 p.m. matchup versus the University at Albany.
