CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time in as many weeks, senior Denise Beliveau (Framingham, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was named the America East Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Beliveau averaged 20.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in two league contests last week. She also shot 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the field and improved her league-leading free-throw shooting with a perfect (10-for-10) performance combined in the two games. The forward added 4-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc to her weekly resumé.
Beliveau recorded her league-leading sixth double-double of the season on Monday at UMBC with 17 points and 16 boards, finishing with three assists. She then led the Wildcats past Hartford with a 23-point, seven-rebound performance, leading all players in both categories. Beliveau hit 3-of-5 three-pointers against the Hawks, and netted eight straight points with a pair of treys midway through the first half to establish an early 13-point UNH advantage.
In conference games this year, Beliveau is first in America East in scoring and free-throw percentage, second in rebounds, third in three-point field-goal percentage and fourth in field-goal percentage. She ranks sixth in Division I with a 91.1 percent mark at the charity stripe.
This is the third straight weekly honor for the Wildcats as Beliveau was named Player of the Week on Jan. 2 and junior Morgan Frame (Waterville, Maine) earned the title on Dec. 26.
The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11 when they play host to Albany at Lundholm Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. matchup. For tickets, and more information, visit www.unhwildcats.com or call (603) 862-4000, extension 5.
