DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guard Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H.) has been named captain of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team for the upcoming 2012-13 season, as announced by third-year head coach Maureen Magarity. Hogan served as co-captain last year and was also a captain in 2010, when she was a medical redshirt for the second consecutive year.
Hogan, who is adept at playing both guard positions, started all 30 games in 2012 and led the team – and America East conference – in 3-point field goal percentage at 44.6% (41-for-92). She also led the Wildcats in assists, ranked second in both 3-point field goals game and minutes (33.9 per game) as well as third in scoring (10.2 ppg), field goals made and attempted, field goal percentage (.386) and free throws made and attempted.
Other stats illustrate Hogan is a multidimensional player. In addition to her offensive prowess, she tied for second on the squad in steals and was third in rebounding.
Hogan was named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2011, when she led UNH and the conference in both 3-point field goal percentage and assists. The 5-foot-6 guard also ranked second on the team in minutes and steals, as well as fourth in both scoring (8.2 ppg) and rebounds. Hogan joined the program in the 2008-09 season, but incurred a season-ending injury three games into her collegiate career and was also sidelined the following year.
New Hampshire, selected fourth in the America East Coaches' Preseason Poll following a 16-14 campaign that ended with a trip to the Women's Basketball Invitational tournament, begins the 2012-13 season Nov. 14 (7 p.m.) at Yale University. The Wildcats' home opener is Nov. 25 (1 p.m.) against Cornell University.
