Women's Basketball Ranks Fourth in America East Preseason Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team, under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Maureen Magarity, ranked fourth in the 2013-14 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll released Wednesday via Twitter.

UNH received 46 points, including one first place vote behind the University at Albany (64 points; eight first-place votes), University of Hartford (54) and Stony Brook University (48). The University of Vermont (30), University of Maine (27), UMBC (24) Binghamton University (23) and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (8) round out the nine-team poll. 

The Wildcats return eight letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's team that compiled a 12-18 record overall and 6-10 in conference play and finished fifth in the conference standings. New Hampshire reached the America East semifinals for the first time since 2005, edging out Stony Brook, 49-46, before bowing out to tournament champion Albany, 57-71.

New Hampshire led America East last season from the charity stripe, hitting 70.4% of its free throws. 

Senior guard and captain Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H.) was named to the 2013-14 America East All-Preseason Team on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Pacing the 'Cats in scoring on six occasions, Hogan is the leading returner for UNH, at 9.8 ppg last season. Additionally, the guard paced the team in assists, dishing out 73 last season. Amongst the America East, Hogan ranked seventh in both assists per game (3.2) and minutes per game (32.9).

New Hampshire starts the 2013-14 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 9 (5 p.m.) at Lundholm Gymnasium against Worcester State.
