UNH Women's lce Hockey Falls To St. Lawrence 2-1

Canton, N.Y. -- St. Lawrence University ended the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team's five game win streak as the Saints edged the Wildcats 2-1 Friday night. The Wildcats fall to 11-3-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the ECAC Conference. St. Lawrence improves to 11-4-0 overall and 6-4-0 in conference action.

In the third period, St. Lawrence took a 2-1 lead at 17:06 when Shannon Smith scored her fifth goal of the season, which proved to be the game winning goal. UNH tied the game 1-1 when senior forward Samantha Holmes (Miississauga, Ont.) found the back of the net for her 18th goal of the season. Senior center CarIsa Zaban (Glenview, Ill.) assisted on the goal.

St. Lawrence got on the board 1-0 in the second period when freshman forward Chera Marshall put a rebound past UNH goaltender Jen Huggon (Plymouth, Mass.) at 2:33. Meghan Maguire and Smith assisted on the goal.

The two teams played through a scoreless first period with Huggon stopping six shots and St. Lawrence netminder Emily Stein making four saves.

Huggon finished with 17 saves and Stein made 23 in the win.

The Wildcats travel to Cornell on Saturday where they face off against the Big Red at 7p.m.
