UNH Women's Ice Hockey Selected Second in Preseason Poll

Hyannis, Mass.-The ECAC preseason women's ice hockey poll was released Monday with the University of New Hampshire ranked second among 13 teams.

The poll ranked Harvard first with nine first place votes and 163 points. Following UNH were Brown, Northeastern, Dartmouth, Princeton, Providence, Niagara, St. Lawrence, Cornell, Maine, Boston College and Yale.

UNH finished last season with a 23-7-5 mark and tied for second in the ECAC. They fell just short of another national championship in a 5-4 overtime loss to Harvard.

The Wildcats return 11 forwards including 1999 Patty Kazmaier Award Candidate Carisa Zaban (Glenview, Ill.). Last season, Zaban finished first on the team in scoring with 29 goals and 38 assists. Senior Samantha Holmes (Mississauga, Ont.) followed Zaban in scoring last season with 30 goals and 25 assists. All-ECAC honorable mention Michelle Thornton (Gloucester, Ont.) and Melissa McKenzie (Bethel Park, Pa.) provide depth as they finished tied for fourth in scoring.

UNH returns four defensemen in seniors Kerry Maher (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Jaime DeGriselles (Lakeville, Minn.) as well as junior Brandi Kerns (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Chandy Kaip (Radville, Saskatchewan).

Senior goaltender Alicia Roberts (North Muskegon, Mich.) is in her final season at UNH. She finished the 1998-99 season with a 2.11 goals against average and a .911 save percentage for a 19-7-5 record.
