DURHAM, N.H. -The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team won its first exhibition game of the season with a 3-1 victory over Concordia University on Sunday afternoon at the Whittemore Center. Today's win over Concordia is the first in seven years.
Senior forward Samantha Holmes (Mississauga, Ont.) scored the game winning goal 13:31 into the second period. Sophomore forward Kelly McManus (Dedham, Mass.) assisted on game clinching goal. Late in the third period, Senior forward Melissa McKenzie (Bethel Park, Pa.) tacked on a insurance goal to close out the Wildcat scoring. Holmes and senior defenseman Jaime DeGriselles (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied an assist on the McKenzie score.
In the first period, junior forward Michelle Thornton (Gloucester, Ont.) opened the scoring on a pass from freshman defenseman Randy Hickox (Mississauga, Ont.). Senior defenseman Kerry Maher (Clifton Park, N.Y.) also had an assist on the Thornton tally.
Senior netminder Alicia Roberts (North Muskegon, Mich.) recorded 20 saves in the win for the 'Cats, while Concordia keeper Jessika Audet notched 38 saves in a losing cause.
The Wildcats return to action at home on Friday night a 7 p.m. in another exhibition match-up against the Assabet Valley Sr. A's at the Whittemore Center.
