New Hampshire women’s hockey falls to Brown, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. -- Kim Insalaco netted a goal and assisted on another to propel the sixth-ranked Brown University women’s hockey team to Saturday night’s 3-0 ECAC victory against No. 9 University of New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center.

UNH is now 17-15-0 overall and 13-10-0 in the conference while Brown, which became the first team to blank New Hampshire twice in the same season they also won 3-0 at Meehan Auditorium, improved to 17-5-3, 15-5-3.

Following two scoreless periods, Insalaco gave the Bears a 1-0 advantage at 1:31 when her slap shot from the right point found the upper-right corner. Kelly Sheridan earned an assist by drawing the faceoff back to Insalaco. Kristy Zamora made it 2-0 with the help of Insalaco at 16:07.

UNH goalie Jen Huggon (Plymouth, Mass.) made 28 saves. She was pulled with 1:44 remaining in regulation with UNH already on the powerplay. Kathleen Kauth scored an unassitsed empty-net goal with 1.2 seconds left to cap the scoring. Brown’s Pam Dreyer, ranked first in the nation in save percentage and second in GAA, stopped 23 shots for her seventh shutout of the season. The Wildcats, now sixth in the ECAC standings, conclude the regular season with Sunday afternoon’s Senior Day game against Harvard University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 3 p.m.
