New Hampshire women's hockey No. 8 in preseason poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was voted No. 8 in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey preseason poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon.

UNH finished at No. 10 in the final poll of 2001 with a 17-17-0 overall record. The University of Minnesota-Duluth, which won the 2001 national championship, captured the top spot in the poll by garnering all 13 first-place votes for 130 points. Rounding out the top five are Dartmouth College (110 points), St. Lawrence University (104), University of Wisconsin (83) and Brown University (70). The University of Minnesota (61) and Harvard University (43) also tallied more points than UNH's 41.

Providence College (35) and Ohio State University (19) complete the poll.

New Hampshire plays its only exhibition game of the year Oct. 7 vs. Concordia. Game time at the Whitt is 2 p.m. The regular season begins Oct. 19 (7 p.m.) at home against 10th-ranked Ohio State.
