New Hampshire women's hockey overwhelms Quinnipiac, 10-0

DURHAM, N.H. -- Allison Edgar (Brigden, Ont.) scored four goals and Steph Jones (Kimberley, B.C.) netted a hat trick to lead the University of New Hampshire to Saturday night's 10-0 ECAC Eastern Women's Hockey League victory against Quinnipiac University at the Whittemore Center.

UNH, which outshot the Braves 144-25 in the two-game series, won its fifth consecutive game to improve to 5-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference. Quinnipiac is now 0-4-0, 0-2-0 in its first year of varsity competition. In her first career start, Hilary Ensor (Grapevine, Texas) recorded 14 saves for the shutout victory. Kira Misikowetz (Mississauga, Ont.) recorded five points and leads the team in scoring (3-10-13).

Edgar, who has a team-best nine goals, opened the game scoring on a shot from the right circle at 3:05. Jones increased the lead to 3-0 with tallies at 4:37 and 14:26. Kristine Butt (Pembroke, Mass.) gave the Wildcats a 4-0 lead before the first intermission with a goal at 16:38.

The Wildcats also netted four goals in the second period. Carolyn Gordon (Petrolia, Ont.), who has a team-high 11 assists, scored her first goal of the year 38 seconds into the stanza. Edgar potted goals at 6:05 and 14:16, which sandwiched a Jones tally at 8:00.

Edgar scored her fourth of the game 35 seconds into the final frame and Chandy Kaip (Radville, Sask.) recorded her first goal of the season at 9:33 to cap the scoring.

Catherine Lapare started the night in the Quinnipiac net and stopped 20 shots in the first period. She was pulled in favor of Victoria Castellon, who allowed three goals on 14 shots in eight minutes of action. Mel Courtemanche played the final 32 minutes in net and made 31 saves. She surrendered three goals.

UNH next faces off against Boston College on Nov. 7 at Conte Forum. The team's next home contest takes place Nov. 16 against Wisconsin. Game times are both 7 p.m.
