UNH's Thomas, Wright-Ward earn Hockey East honors

DURHAM, N.H. - Kristen Thomas (Wilmington, Mass.), senior captain of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named TPS Hockey Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday, and teammate Sadie Wright-Ward (Durham, N.H.) was honored as ITECH Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

Thomas' career-high five assists propelled UNH to a season-high nine goals in the Wildcats' 9-2 victory against Northeastern University on Feb. 6. Thomas recorded an assist on each of UNH's first three goals to give the 'Cats a 3-0 lead and she reached the 100-point milestone on her third assist of the night. The five assists is a single-game Hockey East record and her five points also marked a career-best effort.

Wright-Ward recorded personal bests in both assists (three) and points (four) in UNH's victory against Northeastern. She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal by giving the 'Cats a 3-0 lead at 7:51 of the second period and picked up an assist 3:01 later for a 4-0 advantage. Wright-Ward also had a pair of third-period assists and finished with a +3 rating.

Thomas became the fourth UNH defenseman and 31st Wildcat skater overall to record 100 career points. She has 25 goals and 77 assists in 127 career games, and her 77 assists is a program record among defenseman. With two goals and 22 assists this season, Thomas ranks eighth in the nation in assists per game (0.92) and sixth in points per game (defensemen) at 1.00.

Wright-Ward, who previously earned the league's rookie honor Oct. 27, has 10 points with four goals and six assists in 25 games.
