WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Melissa Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Quebec), a freshman goaltender on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named ITECH Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week by Hockey East on Monday. She is the first repeat winner of the award this season.
Bourdon went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .958 save percentage in two games against Northeastern University last week. She made 27 saves Nov. 22 at Matthews Arena to record her second shutout of the season and stopped 19 of 21 shots Nov 20 in UNH's 4-2 victory at the Whittemore Center.
In the first meeting Bourdon made 10 of her 19 saves in the third period and held the Huskies scoreless for the final 2:48 as they pulled their goalie in favor of an extra skater - NU had a 6-x4 advantage for two minutes with a Wildcat player in the penalty box. In the second game of the weekend, 15 of her 27 saves came in the first period.
For the season, Bourdon is 3-0-0 with a 0.67 GAA, .974 save percentage and two shutouts.
This marks the fourth time that a UNH Wildcat has earned Rookie of the Week honors this season from Hockey East. Nicole Heckle (Winnipeg, Manitoba; Nov. 3) and Sadie Wright-Ward (Durham, N.H.; Oct. 27) were previous Wildcat honorees.
Seventh-ranked New Hampshire (6-2-2 overall, 3-0-1 Hockey East) plays at Brown University on Nov. 25 (7 p.m.). The next Wildcat home game is Nov. 30 vs. Harvard University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.
