DURHAM, N.H. -- Stephanie Jones (Kimberley, B.C.), a senior forward and captain on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday and received the USCHO.com Offensive Player of the Week award Tuesday. This marked the third time this season Jones was feted as Hockey East Player of the Week - she also received that distinction Jan. 17 and Dec. 7.
Jones extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games as she scored two goals in both games against Maine and finished the weekend with five points (4g, 1a). She netted the game-winning goal in Saturday's 5-2 win as her second tally of the game gave the 'Cats a 3-0 lead in the first period; she also scored the first goal of the game to produce a 1-0 lead. Jones followed that effort with two goals and an assist in Sunday's 5-0 win. Her consecutive tallies extended UNH's lead from 1-0 to 3-0 and she set up the last goal of the game.
Jones is currently ranked 16th in the nation in goals per game (0.79), sixth in game-winning goals (five) and 24th in points per game (1.32). She leads the team in goals (22) and game-winning goals (five), and also ranks second in points (37) and power-play goals (six) as well as fourth in assists (15).
New Hampshire has won four consecutive games to improve to 19-5-4 overall and ascend to the top of the Hockey East standings at 11-1-2. The Wildcats return to action Feb. 19 (2 p.m.) at UConn. The next UNH home game is Feb. 26 (2 p.m.) vs. Providence.
