WAKEFIELD, Mass -- Jennifer Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario), a freshman forward on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named ITECH Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
In UNH's only game of the week, Hitchcock recorded a career-high four points with her first career hat trick and an assist to propel the Wildcats to an 8-0 victory against Northeastern University (on Nov. 3). Hitchcock gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal at 3:51 and an even-strength tally midway through the first period. She had a second-period assist and completed her hat trick with an unassisted shorthanded goal in the final frame.
Hitchcock is one of two Wildcats who has recorded a point in all seven games this season. She is tied for the team lead in both goals (five) and points (10), and is tied for third in assists (five). In addition, Hitchcock has a team-best plus/minus rating of +8. Hitchcock has four goals and two assists for six points in three Hockey East games.
Hitchcock is the second Wildcat to garner ITECH Rookie of the Week honors this season. Jessica Zerafa (Mississauga, Ontario) received that distinction Oct. 25.
UNH (7-0-0, 3-0-0 Hockey East) returns to action Nov. 13 (2 p.m.) at St. Lawrence University. The next Wildcat home game is Nov. 20 vs. Northeastern. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
