WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Nicole Goguen (Truro, Nova Scotia), a sophomore defenseman on the third-ranked University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Goguen helped anchor a Wildcat defensive unit that allowed just one goal on 25 shots in two games last week -- a 2-0 victory against Northeastern University (nine shots) and a 2-1 win vs. Wisconsin (16 shots). In addition, the 'Cats allowed only eight shots by the Ottawa Raiders (NWHL) in a 6-2 exhibition victory at the Dartmouth Classic. Offensively, Goguen recorded an assist on the game-winning goal vs. Northeastern and she had a plus/minus rating of +3 in the pair of wins.
Goguen, a 2005 Hockey East All-Academic Team honoree, has three assists in 11 games this season to match her assist total from her rookie season, in which she compiled six points.
UNH (9-2-0 overall, 4-1-0 Hockey East) returns to action Nov. 30 at home against Hockey East newcomer Boston University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
