WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Jennifer Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario), captain and junior forward on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s hockey team, was named TPS Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. She received the same honor Oct. 30.
Hitchcock recorded a total of three points, all on goals, in UNH’s 3-3 ties against both Harvard University and Dartmouth College last weekend. Her two goals at Harvard erased a 3-1 deficit to lift the ‘Cats into a draw. Hitchcock then extended her goal-scoring streak to seven games with her team-leading 15th tally of the season vs. DC, which gave the ‘Cats a 3-2 lead in the second period. Hitchcock has a power-play goal in each of the last four games and a team-high nine this season.
In 18 games this season, Hitchcock has 15 goals and six assists for 21 points to rank No. 9 in the nation in goals per game (0.79) and third in power-play goals (nine). In addition to leading the Wildcats in both goals and power-play goals, she is second in points. Hitchcock has recorded a point in 15 of 19 games with six multiple-point games, which includes three multiple-goal efforts. Her season highlights include recording her 100th career point Oct. 29 with her 49th career goal in her 81st career game.
Hitchcock has amassed 112 career points with 59 goals and 53 assists in 91 games. The 59 goals ranks 17th (with Kip Porter; 1980-83) on UNH’s career leaderboard.
New Hampshire (14-2-3 overall, 6-1-0 Hockey East) returns to action Jan. 6, 2007 (1 p.m.) at ninth-ranked University of Connecticut. The Wildcats’ next home game is Jan. 12 (7 p.m.) vs. the University of Maine.
