WAKEFIELD, Mass.  – Jennifer Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario), a junior forward and captain on the fifth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named TPS Player of the Week and teammate Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ontario) was honored as Mission Hockey Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
    The pair of Wildcats helped vault UNH to the top of the Hockey East standings with last week’s victories against Boston University (4-1 on Jan. 31) and ninth-ranked Boston College (4-2 on Feb. 3).
    Hitchcock recorded three points with two goals and an assist. Her power-play tally vs. BC gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead and put them ahead to stay. Hitchcock scored the team’s first goal at BU to pull the ‘Cats into a 1-1 tie early in the second period and she also set up the team’s third-period tally that gave them a 4-1 lead.
    Paton, a freshman forward, recorded three points with a goal and two assists. Against BU, she set up the game-winning goal and then scored 1:51 later to turn a 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead for the ‘Cats. Paton also assisted on the game-winning goal vs. BC.
    In 27 games this season, Hitchcock has compiled 20 goals and eight assists for 28 points to rank No. 12 in the nation in goals (0.74 per game) and No. 4 in power-play goals (12). She leads UNH in both goals and power-play goals, and also ranks second in points and fourth in shooting percentage (.159).
    Paton has recorded 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 27 games to rank No. 9 nationally among rookie scorers at 0.96 points per game. She ranks third on the team in both goals and points, and is second in both shooting percentage (.172) and plus/minus (+20); she also has scored two shorthanded goals this season.
    New Hampshire (20-3-4, 12-1-1 Hockey East) returns to action with road games this weekend against Northeastern University (Feb. 10) and Providence College (Feb. 11). Both games begin at 2 p.m.
