WAKEFIELD, Mass.  -- Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario), a freshman forward on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named Mission Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. Wakefield has received that award four times this season.

Wakefield matched her career highs in goals (two), assists (two) and points (four) to lead UNH to an 8-2 victory against Northeastern University on Jan. 26. Her first goal of the game gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead and sparked a four-goal first period. Wakefield assisted on UNH’s fourth tally, then struck again in the middle stanza and tallied another assist in the final frame. She also finished with a plus/minus rating of +3.

In 20 games this season, Wakefield has compiled 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists. She ranks 17th nationally in points (1.30 per game) – which is third among rookies – and 10th in goals (0.70 per game).

Wakefield was also honored as Mission Rookie of the Week consecutive weeks in October (22 & 29) as well as Nov. 26. Her other accolades include Mission Rookie of the Month (October).

New Hampshire (21-3-1 overall, 11-0-1 Hockey East) returns to action Feb. 2-3 at the University of Maine. The Wildcats’ next home game is Feb. 16 (2 p.m.) vs. Vermont; that game is part of Hockey East’s “Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer” weekend.
